Nowadays, yoga is trending as it helps in incurable diseases such as decreasing the stress leval, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease. There are more than 100 forms of yoga. Some are fast-paced and intense.

Dhirendra Brahmachari

Dhirendra Brahmachari is known as the Yoga Teacher of Indira Gandhi. He started promoting yoga through the Doordarshan channel. Along with this, he has started yoga in Delhi’s schools and Yoga in Vishwayatan Yoga Ashram. He has promoted yoga by writing several books in Hindi and English language. He also has a luxurious ashram in Jammu.

BKS Iyengar

BKS Iyengar has played an important role in making Yoga recognized worldwide. He also has a yoga school called ‘Anyagar Yoga’. Through this school, he made people around the world aware of yoga. In the year 2004, ‘Time Magazine’ named him among the top 100 influential people in the world. Apart from this, he redefined the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. He also has a book called ‘Light on Yoga’, which is considered as Yoga Bible.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a well-known guru of ‘Transcendental Meditation’ in the country and the world. Many celebrities also consider him their mentor. He is known worldwide for his yoga. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is also a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Tirumalai Krishnamacharya

Tirumalai Krishnamacharya is called the ‘Father of Modern Yoga’. Full credit goes to him for reviving hatha yoga and configuration. Tirumalai Krishnamacharya also knew about Ayurveda. He used to cure people who came to him for treatment with the help of Yoga and Ayurveda. He gave yoga a new identity throughout India during the reign of the Maharaja of Mysore.

Krishna Pattabhi Jois

Krishna Pattabhi Jois was also a great yoga teacher. He was born on 26 July 1915 and Matyu on 18 May 2009. Krishna had developed the Ashtanga configuration yoga style. Among his followers were big names like Madonna, Sting and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Paramahans Yogananda

Paramahans Yogananda is known for his book ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’. He introduced the people of the West to meditation and kriya yoga. Not only this, Paramahamsa Yogananda is the first and main guru of yoga. He spent most of his life in America.

Swami Shivanand Saraswati

Swami Shivanand Saraswati was a doctor by profession. He has written more than 200 books on Yoga, Vedanta and many other subjects. He has a yoga center called ‘Shivanand Yoga Vedanta’. He dedicated his entire life to this center. He propagated yoga worldwide by uniting karma and devotion with yoga.

Baba Ramdev

His mass Yoga camps have brought the Yoga back to the mainstream. His watch and practice TV programmes have encouraged the masses to practice Yoga in the comfort zone of one’s home. Baba Ramdev has also introduced natural household things such as cosmetics, eatables, and many more with the assurance of purity.

Jaggi Vasudev

The Philanthropist that hails from Karnataka is popularly called as Sadhguru. He founded Isha Foundation that offers yoga programmes around the world.
