Director Zoya Akhtar’s musical drama Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s film “Gully Boy” has been selected as India’s official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category for the year 2020.
Earlier the movie was premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and also received the Best Film Award at the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne.
The film was released commercially in the entire country in February 2019. Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vijayaraj, Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Verma and Amrita Subhash’s acting was highly appreciated by the people. The film is inspired by the lives and work of rappers Naezy and Divine.
Film Federation of India (FFI) secretary general Supran Sen told “There were 27 films in the running this year but it was an unanimous decision to select Gully Boy,”.
The Film was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. Ranveer Singh has played the role of an emerging rapper. The film even performed well in the international arena.

For your information: “Gully Boy” is the story of a boy named Murad who dreams of becoming a rapper. Through street wrapping, he wants to work in the music world. However, poverty and society impede his dream of turning into reality.
So far only three movies from India has been nominated in the foreign language film category at the Oscars. These movies are Mehboob Khan’s Mother India (1957), Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay! (1988), and Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan (2001).
The 92nd Academy Awards will held in Los Angeles, US on February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre.
