  • 1966: The then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who raised the slogan of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, died in Tashkent.

  • 1992: Singer Paul Simon was the first major artist to tour South Africa after the end of the cultural boycott.
  • 1994: Hyderabad score 6 for 944 against Andhra Pradesh in Ranji Trophy
  • 2008: Sir Edmund Hillary, the first mountaineer and philanthropist of Mount Everest, died.
  • 2009: Slumdog Millionaire received Best Film Award at the 66th Golden Globe Awards.
  • 2015: Kolinda Gruber Kitarovic elected as Croatia’s first female Prime Minister.
